A. Nederland is the Dutch word for "the Netherlands". The Dutch immigrant families who moved here from the Netherlands in 1897 and 1898 named this flat, wet land after their homeland. The Netherlands is no longer a poor country as it was 125 years ago. They may only have 16 million people, but they are the third-largest source of foreign investment in the United States. The Dutch people pay close attention to Nederland, Texas; our suffering during the Harvey flood in 2017 was widely-covered in their media. They speak English at a phenomenal level, but appreciate it when foreigners speak their language in their country. Why not have me, a man who is familiar with the Dutch language and culture, as the Mayor of Nederland who is willing to travel there and try to get some investment from Nederland (the Netherlands) to Nederland, Texas?
B. Team DOJ wants to engage the services of an outside entity to review the Nederland Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to see where our taxes and fees are going and if they can be spent more economically.
