I wholeheartedly agree with Jeff Ortiz's statement.
The City Council needs to stop the search for a new city manager until those elected on May 3 are sworn in in mid-May. If elected, I will work with the Master of Public Administration program at Lamar University to recruit a city manager who knows Southeast Texas and not spend $50,000 to $100,000 to hire a consultant to do the search.
The resignation of our city manager signifies a time of transition and the need for a new direction. As we look to the future, it is essential to develop a strategic plan that encompasses the long-term vision for our city. This plan should prioritize unity and the spirit of community, as well as address the needs and aspirations of our residents.
The process of selecting a new city manager presents an opportunity to assess the qualities and skills that will be crucial for leading our city into the future. It is important for the community to be involved in this process, to ensure that the new city manager reflects the values and priorities of our city.
Additionally, the city council and citizens should work together to set clear goals and objectives for the new city manager, as well as establish mechanisms for accountability and transparency. By doing so, we can lay the foundation for a strong and resilient future for our city.
The Best is Yet to Come!
